Fiberglass Plugs and Molds
Built to Your Specifications
At Porta Fiberglass Inc., we can build a mold form based on your specifications. If you have an existing product, we can pull a "plug" from it and use the plug to create a mold and make identical parts from that.
Many times, all we have to go on is a line drawing - even on the back of an envelope! We can proceed from that point to expand the drawing into several more detailed ones, and produce the quality product(s) that you want.
Completed Plug
Some molds are simple - a flat panel for instance. Others are very complex, with lots of bends and curves and changing measurements. Our pricing is based on the complexity, so it requires that we discuss your project in some detail before we can price it.
As with our fabrication process, we do mold and plug development and production by hand, with extreme detail to the quality of the finish against which the mold release agent (usually gelcoat) will lie. This greatly increases the probability of getting a fully acceptable piece out of the mold the very first time.
